Engine 34- The Lords of Livernois

Welcome to the online home of Detroit Fire Department's Engine 34, more affectionately known as "The Lords of Livernois."

A proud member of the Detroit Fire Department's Second Battalion, Engine 34 opened at the corner of Livernois and Walton in November of 1918, directly across from Henry Ford's original Lincoln Plant (currently the Detroit Edison Plant).

E34 also made history on April 25th 1938, when TFF's Marcena Taylor and Marvin White became the first two African American firefighters in the history of the Detroit Fire Department.  FF Taylor went on to become the first African American Battalion Chief of the Detroit Fire Department in 1969.  FF White went on to serve in the Fire Prevention bureau in 1951 before being promoted to Archetectural Engineer in 1953.

In 2002 the fire house was shut down due to a rapidly deteriorating apparatus floor.  During this time the crew found themselves as the Gypsies of the DFD, moving from engine house to engine house, with constant threats of a permanent closing looming overhead. (Thank You to Truck 22, Engine 42/Truck 21, Engine 31/Squad 4, and Engine 39 For taking us in and showing us a good time during our "Tour".)
Then thanks to the tireless effort of many individuals that lobbied the politicians on our behalf, the apparatus bay floor was repaired, and the like a phoenix rising from the ashes, The Lords Of Livernois were born again!
Since that time E34 has transformed from one of the worst companies to be assigned to into one of the most desired details in the city!

****** Notice******

At the current time, the DFD is no longer allowing photos to be taken while on duty. All future pictures supplied to our site must submitted by freelance photographers in the region.
